Stevia-The New Wonder Sweetner with ZERO calories

Stevia rebaudiana, cultivated under glass in D...Image via Wikipedia

  • Stevia is an amazing breakthrough in artificial sweeteners BECAUSE it is NOT artificial, but it is still CALORIE Free. I've been using this for nearly a year now. I've tried liquid forms, granulated/flaky forms, and pre-installed (if you will) in new soda products that are beginning to multiply everywhere.
  • The two best versions of Stevia (a leaf extract from South America) are "Stevia in the Raw" and in the soda "Zevia".
  • If you wonder why you haven't seen this yet, there is a reason. Stevia has been approved forever for use as an herbal suplement sold in co-ops and such. Now, the FDA and European Countries in the last year have approved a regulated/standardized Stevia product for use in food products like sodas, gum, etc.
  • In most grocery stores next to the Splenda and the Aspartame boxes/bags is now this green colored foreigner-Stevia.

Hominy-The Wonder Food!

  • Hominy is one of those long lost treasures of that can replace higher calorie starches in your diet and in recipes. Hominy is a great substitute for corn and things that call for potatoes.
  • The texture is meaty and is very satisfying to eat any time during the day.
  • Hominy is super high in fiber, low in fat, and has a bit of protein too.
  • Due to the high fiber content, it is really low in calories.
  • It is also extremely inexpensive to buy.
  • Large cans usually cost between $1.50-$2, and I've seen the "food service" sized cans go for under $3.00 on a regular basis.
  • Try it mixed in with eggs + Catsup or hot sauce. Try it in a meat and "potato" burrito in place of the potatoes. Try it to make Tuna Casserole instead of with Noodles.
  • You will be surprised how many high calory starches you can replace with hominy-EXPERIMENT!
